6 Tips to Spring Clean Your Home

Posted by wobstorage on January 21, 2020

As we begin to feel the stretch in the days, along comes the urge to scrub away the dust and dirt of winter. Spring cleaning can be hard work, but the results often reenergise us and give us new perspective in other areas of our lives.  Make the most out of your spring cleaning with our tips.

Tip 1: Prioritise

Spring cleaning is about deep cleaning the bits of our homes that are often overlooked.  If you try to cram all your spring cleaning into one day (or even a weekend) you’re going to be exhausted and demotivated before you’re even halfway through. Focus on the areas most in need of attention, and then work your way backwards.

Tip 2: Manage your Time

Be realistic about how much time you have to commit and choose a space to clean, or a specific cleaning job, that you can fully complete within that time frame.

Tip 3: Track your Progress

It’s easy to get overwhelmed in the middle of a cleaning job and to feel like you’re not getting anywhere. Before you start, why not write a checklist of everything that needs to get done and break it down by room?  You can tick the list off as you go and even if it feels like you’re not getting anywhere, your list will remind you that you are making progress.  Checklists are also great to help you stay focused.

Tip 4: Banish the Clutter

Before you can clean anything, you have to get rid of some those unused items causing clutter. Nothing creates a feeling of claustrophobia faster than too much stuff. Make your way around the house clearing off surfaces and only put back out what you really love.

Divide what you don’t want into piles for either; recycling, selling, charity shop, storage or bin.  Consider using sites like Done Deal or eBay to sell unwanted items.  Charity shops are a great option to donate things that are in good condition, but you won’t use. Just remember to check with the shop first to see what their policy is.

Storage companies are also a great option for short and long term storage of bulkier items.  Seasonal items like Christmas decorations, bulky winter jackets, ski gear, tents and sports equipment can be stored safely and securely with easy access whenever you need it.

Tip 5: Stock Up On the Right Tools

Before you start make sure you have all the cleaning tools you’ll need including an extendable duster, lots of old clothes, all-purpose cleaner, rubber gloves, scrubbing brushes and bin bags.

Tip 6: Open those Windows!

As soon as the temperatures allow, open all your windows and let the fresh air in for a while. This will help to clear out the stuffiness and make you and everything around you feel revitalised.
